Last week, we asked our community to throw us their questions for David Welch, Creative Manager for Portal Knights.

We’ve picked out some of the best questions and you can now see David’s answers below…

QUESTION:
Will you implement controller support?

ANSWER:
Yes, definitely! We’re working on it. That said, it’s a lot of work to make all our menus controller-compatible, so it’s going to take time. Expect it in one of the major updates. We’ll let you know when we have a more exact date – David Welch

QUESTION:
In what manner will the combat system change? – Legendarybunny

ANSWER:
Better usability. More skill. Deeper variety between classes, weapons, and monsters.

QUESTION:
After travelling around all the worlds is there anything else to do? I mean you just can build a house and that’s it? – Nake

ANSWER:
You can check out all three classes, experiment with gear, find all the hidden recipes, and stay tuned for all the cool stuff coming in Early Access…

QUESTION:
Is building entirely optional, or an important part of gameplay? Personally, I like having a REASON to build. – @beelzerob

ANSWER:
You definitely need your crafting stations to progress! And it helps to have a safe and convenient place to put them. It also helps to have a farm for consumables. Most importantly: where are you gonna show off all your awesome stuff? 🙂

QUESTION:
I don’t know if this is farfetched but, are there any plans to implement PVP? – Ethercloud

ANSWER:
No immediate plans, but we’re open to suggestion. We’re just not sure it’d be very fun, and we’re *all* about fun.

QUESTION:
Streamlining the building process? (For example, I know I’m not very far in the game but I have trouble building quickly. I’m constantly falling off of my creations and placing blocks in the wrong spot.) – ltupper3

ANSWER:
We’re constantly improving the controls, and some of these improvements should help with building.

QUESTION:
What are you expecting to be the most appealing way to spend time in the game once it’s finished? How do you “beat the game?” For example, you want players to explore forever, craft their own worlds and share them, PvP, set up a base, farm and craft, complete achievements, etc. – magneticshower

ANSWER:
During Early Access we’ll be adding lots of content that should make for great endgame activities—special challenges, collectibles, and ways to customize your character and home.

QUESTION:
What’s your ultimate goal for multiplayer experience? How many players is the ideal number to enjoy the game? Are you planning to scale resource availability in addition to boss difficulty with more players? – magneticshower

ANSWER:
The goal is for a great experience, whether by yourself or with friends. There really isn’t an ideal number! We just want to make sure there are fun challenges you can do together. Since players can drop in and out we can’t really scale the amount of ore & gems in a world, but we’re looking at other ways to solve that problem.

QUESTION:
Why three classes? Why these three? What’s your vision for each? Right now, your class choice doesn’t seem to have an impact on the game, do you plan to change this? Do you have plans for more classes? – magneticshower

ANSWER:
We wanted to offer a variety of play styles, and wanted to make sure the classes played well both by themselves or with friends. And also that they’re cool and pretty familiar for most players! That said, we do want to deepen the differences between classes. We have DEFINITELY discussed other class ideas, but are focusing on other things first.

QUESTION:
The current areas seem kind of small. Are they planned to be bigger? – @beelzerob

ANSWER:
We’re looking into it! We’ve got to make sure bigger islands would be fun and run well on most hardware.

QUESTION:
Where did you get the idea for Portal Knights from? – @XenkouGAME

ANSWER:
After playing a LOT of Minecraft, Zelda, and Terraria. And after remembering a certain high school Dungeons & Dragons campaign…

QUESTION:
I like the furniture decorations for the homes, but they have no use right now, any plans for them? Sitting on chairs, sleeping on the beds, reading on the shelves… Could be a good way to regenerate HP/mana points. – Miki

ANSWER:
We hear you! These are great ideas, and something we’re definitely considering.

QUESTION:
Any plans on new enemies? I like how each Island has its own biome, but I feel that there should be more variety in monsters. – Miki

ANSWER:
Yes! There are plans to introduce new enemies. Watch this space!

QUESTION:
After a while you start to accumulate portal shards and materials that are useless, could it be possible to “transmute” them into higher tier mats? For example mixing 10 raw Green emeralds to get a raw Flame Ruby, same for ores. – Miki

ANSWER:
We’re absolutely looking at ways to keep resources useful. However, you should also think about inviting a friend and giving them your old stuff! 😉

QUESTION:
How do you feel about adding cosmetic slots for equipment? I liked some of the earlier armors and would be nice to have them as cosmetics, also a “hide helmet” option would be sweet. – Miki

ANSWER:
These are all great ideas. We’re looking into them!
