Community Blog – 14/11/16

By Antonela Pounder @AnimatedAnt (Community Manager – 505 Games)

Firstly… Welcome to another community blog! As you can probably imagine, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes in the world of Portal Knights, as we continue to bring suggestions to life and work on bringing a bunch of new features to the game. When we look back, it’s crazy to see how far this game has come, but we’ve still got lots in the pipeline and are we are far from done!

UPDATE V 0.6.0
Last month, we launched our latest update… Update v 0.6.0. This update introduced some huge community features to Portal Knights… NPC’s, pets, all-new events, combat improvements, the portal compass and much more! The response from the community has been incredible and we’re so pleased that you’re enjoying the update as much as we are. Looking back, Portal Knights has come a long way since launching into Early Access in February. However, be rest assured, we’re going to keep on pushing! Soon after we launched our latest update, we asked our community to once again provide us with some feedback in the form of a short survey. This is something we’re going to continue doing, as the info we get is invaluable to the team. Many of you continue to put some time aside to give us your thoughts and for that, we want to say a massive thank you! You guys are awesome! Expect another survey on your social timeline soon after the launch of our next update… 😉

UPDATE V 0.7.0
Speaking of future updates… What’s next in the pipeline? Well… Behind the scenes, our team of developers are continuing to work flat out on the next update, which is scheduled for launch at the end of November. While we don’t want to give everything away at this stage, what we can say is we’re super excited at what’s to come. Update v 0.7.0 is filled with even more community requests, including water, which we announced most recently. We know this is something our players have been asking for since our EA launch, so we’re thrilled to be bringing it to Portal Knights as part of our next major update. As you can imagine, implementing water isn’t an easy task, but our developers have been working incredibly hard to make this happen. We cannot wait to see what our community does with it! Once Update v 0.7.0 is out in the wild, be sure to share your screenshots and videos with us – We’ll repost as many as we can across our social channels in the near future! As for what else is coming… Well, you’re just going to have to wait and see! Stay tuned to our community channels over the next couple of weeks as we unveil more info on Update v 0.7.0! We think you’re going to love it! 😉

LOYALTY
We’re learning so much during this Early Access period and we have our community to thank for that. You guys have been so incredibly loyal, supportive and encouraging! There’s still a long way to go and we know that, but we’re pushing hard and we’re going to continue to try and bring your awesome suggestions to life! We’re not just appreciative for the positive comments that come through, but also the constructive criticism we receive. We’ve always been open to suggestion and this isn’t about to change. Our community have been so honest with us during our EA journey and we want to take this opportunity to thank you for that. It makes a massive difference! As we’ve said many, many times before, we’re developing Portal Knights WITH our community, so please, continue to be open and honest with us. It means world to us and we’re so grateful to have you guys on board.
Keep on being awesome and have a great week!

Community Blog – August 2016

By Antonela Pounder @AnimatedAnt (Community Manager – 505 Games)

Can you believe it’s almost been 6 months since we launched Portal Knights into Early Access?

No, neither can we!

COMMUNITY MATTERS
It’s crazy to think how far we’ve come since we launched on Steam back in February. The Portal Knights you first downloaded back then is very different Portal Knights to the one you’re playing now… And we’re still pushing on! The progress we’ve made so far couldn’t have been achieved without the hard work of our development team and YOUR contribution! Our community means so much to us and your feedback is invaluable. At the end of the day we want you to love Portal Knights, which is why our doors are always open to community thoughts and suggestions. You know, we could just follow our own roadmap and dismiss any player feedback that comes our way, but in this day and age that just doesn’t work with Early Access titles.

We’re in this for the long haul and we hope you continue to stick with us. Your support really does mean everything to the team and when we do eventually leave Early Access, we’ll be proud to say we did this WITH our community! The road ahead is long and there’s still lots to do, but we’re working on it – You guys are so worth it! 😉

UPDATE V 0.5.0
Last week, we launched our latest major update, with v 0.5.0. This update saw the introduction of a bunch of community features, including larger islands, text and voice chat, vanity items and much, much more! Speaking of larger islands… On the day we made the announcement to the community, we were filled with excitement. Community Managers get ridiculously giddy over moments like this, because they know how much it’s going to mean to the fans. The response to the announcement was just fantastic… Thank you for your passion and enthusiasm, it means so, so much to us! We know these are features have been requested for a while now and our development team have been working flat out to bring them to game. The larger islands in particular have been a massive challenge, but we appreciate your patience in allowing us to work behind the scenes to get them ready. We really hope you are enjoying them as much as we are!

Now of course, we know that when a major update comes along there’s a chance bugs might creep in. Since launching v 0.5.0, our development team have been doing everything they can to iron out these issues. We’ve since gone on to release 2 hotfixes (v 0.5.1 & v 0.5.2) which should eliminate many of the problems our community have been experiencing. We know as gamers ourselves how frustrating it is when there are issues, but you guys have been brilliant! Hopefully, we’ve got rid of out most of the issues now, but if you’re still having trouble, please let us know! You can report new issues here…

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK
As with all our updates, we’re trying to fill them with as much content as we can! On reflection, do you think we’re doing enough? Do you like what we do across our community channels in the run up to a launch? Or do you think we need to do more? Well, now’s your opportunity to tell us! Yesterday, we launched a Community Feedback survey based around our latest update and we’d love you guys to give us your thoughts. This is something we now want to do after every update and we’re encouraging all our players to take part. If you’re interested in giving us your feedback, click the link below…

COMMUNITY SCREENSHOTS
We LOVE reading your Tweets, Facebook comments, forum discussions, YouTube comments, etc… Another thing we also LOVE to do is look through our community screenshots! Our players are so creative and we can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with the larger worlds. We’ve already seen some crazy builds, but we want to see more! If you have a construction that you’d love us to see, show us! Just head over to any of our Official social channels and send your screenshots our way. We’re super excited to see what you come up with. 😉

GOING FORWARD
So, what’s next in the PK pipeline? Well, for now, we’re going to keep that answer under wraps! (We don’t want to give everything away too soon!) Let’s just say we think you’re are going to LOVE what our dev team are up to behind the scenes and over the coming weeks we’ll be giving you a sneaky peek into what to expect. Let’s just say, more community suggestions are coming to Portal Knights!

Now’s probably a good time to stop typing… Again, we’d like to thank our incredibly community for their continued support, passion, believe and enthusiasm for Portal Knights. We’re truly grateful to have you guys on board! Keep being awesome, OK?! 😉

On behalf of the whole PK team, we hope you all have a great weekend!

Community Blog – All Under Control

By Antonela Pounder @AnimatedAnt (Community Manager – 505 Games)

Hi everyone!

Firstly, welcome to another Community Blog! We know it’s been a while, but in case you’ve been wondering, we’ve decided to publish a blog less frequently, so we have more to talk about when we do! 🙂

Update V 0.3.0
For those who may have missed the news, we recently launched our Ghost World update (v 0.3.0) Not only did we introduce a new island theme, but we also included a bunch of new content, such as an events system, furniture, character customization options, new enemies, trophies and the ability to drop items, something we know our community have been asking for since day one! The feedback we received on launching v 0.3.0 was incredible and we’re so glad you love the update as much as we do.

Community Feedback
Last month, we launched a Community Roadmap survey, in order to find out exactly what’s important to you guys and what’s not. That survey is still open, for anyone who hasn’t already sent us their thoughts. As we’ve said many times before, community feedback is incredibly valuable to us, going forward. We’re constantly reading your suggestions and feedback, but now we’re digging deeper to find out exactly what would make Portal Knights the game you want it to be. While we won’t be publishing the results publicly, the feedback we’ve been receiving has been fantastic and we’re very grateful to all those who’ve taken part.

If you’ve not taken part yet and want to, click here > www.surveymonkey.com/r/portalknights

Next Steps
So, what’s going on behind the scenes right now? Well… As you can probably guess, our devs are working flat out as they prepare the next update. Let’s just say, we’re super excited with what’s to come! We have now prioritized development and implemented one of the most asked for community requests, so expect to have great control of your characters in the next update! *Hint hint* 😉

Over the coming weeks, we’ll give our community a sneaky peek into what’s to come, so be sure to follow us across all our channels so you don’t miss out!

On that note, have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Community Q&A with Creative Manager, David Welch – ANSWERS!

Last week, we asked our community to throw us their questions for David Welch, Creative Manager for Portal Knights.

We’ve picked out some of the best questions and you can now see David’s answers below…

QUESTION:
Will you implement controller support?

ANSWER:
Yes, definitely! We’re working on it. That said, it’s a lot of work to make all our menus controller-compatible, so it’s going to take time. Expect it in one of the major updates. We’ll let you know when we have a more exact date – David Welch

QUESTION:
In what manner will the combat system change? – Legendarybunny

ANSWER:
Better usability. More skill. Deeper variety between classes, weapons, and monsters.

QUESTION:
After travelling around all the worlds is there anything else to do? I mean you just can build a house and that’s it? – Nake

ANSWER:
You can check out all three classes, experiment with gear, find all the hidden recipes, and stay tuned for all the cool stuff coming in Early Access…

QUESTION:
Is building entirely optional, or an important part of gameplay? Personally, I like having a REASON to build. – @beelzerob

ANSWER:
You definitely need your crafting stations to progress! And it helps to have a safe and convenient place to put them. It also helps to have a farm for consumables. Most importantly: where are you gonna show off all your awesome stuff? 🙂

QUESTION:
I don’t know if this is farfetched but, are there any plans to implement PVP? – Ethercloud

ANSWER:
No immediate plans, but we’re open to suggestion. We’re just not sure it’d be very fun, and we’re *all* about fun.

QUESTION:
Streamlining the building process? (For example, I know I’m not very far in the game but I have trouble building quickly. I’m constantly falling off of my creations and placing blocks in the wrong spot.) – ltupper3

ANSWER:
We’re constantly improving the controls, and some of these improvements should help with building.

QUESTION:
What are you expecting to be the most appealing way to spend time in the game once it’s finished? How do you “beat the game?” For example, you want players to explore forever, craft their own worlds and share them, PvP, set up a base, farm and craft, complete achievements, etc. – magneticshower

ANSWER:
During Early Access we’ll be adding lots of content that should make for great endgame activities—special challenges, collectibles, and ways to customize your character and home.

QUESTION:
What’s your ultimate goal for multiplayer experience? How many players is the ideal number to enjoy the game? Are you planning to scale resource availability in addition to boss difficulty with more players? – magneticshower

ANSWER:
The goal is for a great experience, whether by yourself or with friends. There really isn’t an ideal number! We just want to make sure there are fun challenges you can do together. Since players can drop in and out we can’t really scale the amount of ore & gems in a world, but we’re looking at other ways to solve that problem.

QUESTION:
Why three classes? Why these three? What’s your vision for each? Right now, your class choice doesn’t seem to have an impact on the game, do you plan to change this? Do you have plans for more classes? – magneticshower

ANSWER:
We wanted to offer a variety of play styles, and wanted to make sure the classes played well both by themselves or with friends. And also that they’re cool and pretty familiar for most players! That said, we do want to deepen the differences between classes. We have DEFINITELY discussed other class ideas, but are focusing on other things first.

QUESTION:
The current areas seem kind of small. Are they planned to be bigger? – @beelzerob

ANSWER:
We’re looking into it! We’ve got to make sure bigger islands would be fun and run well on most hardware.

QUESTION:
Where did you get the idea for Portal Knights from? – @XenkouGAME

ANSWER:
After playing a LOT of Minecraft, Zelda, and Terraria. And after remembering a certain high school Dungeons & Dragons campaign…

QUESTION:
I like the furniture decorations for the homes, but they have no use right now, any plans for them? Sitting on chairs, sleeping on the beds, reading on the shelves… Could be a good way to regenerate HP/mana points. – Miki

ANSWER:
We hear you! These are great ideas, and something we’re definitely considering.

QUESTION:
Any plans on new enemies? I like how each Island has its own biome, but I feel that there should be more variety in monsters. – Miki

ANSWER:
Yes! There are plans to introduce new enemies. Watch this space!

QUESTION:
After a while you start to accumulate portal shards and materials that are useless, could it be possible to “transmute” them into higher tier mats? For example mixing 10 raw Green emeralds to get a raw Flame Ruby, same for ores. – Miki

ANSWER:
We’re absolutely looking at ways to keep resources useful. However, you should also think about inviting a friend and giving them your old stuff! 😉

QUESTION:
How do you feel about adding cosmetic slots for equipment? I liked some of the earlier armors and would be nice to have them as cosmetics, also a “hide helmet” option would be sweet. – Miki

ANSWER:
These are all great ideas. We’re looking into them!

Stay tuned for more Community Q&A sessions in the near future. Thanks again to everyone who submitted a question, you guys are awesome!
